Our collaborative study with the University of Sheffield and Shell titled “The development and evaluation of a parameter-free circuit-based model of bipolar membrane electrodialysis for process design and optimisation” has been published in Chemical Engineering Journal.

Bipolar membrane electrodialysis (BPMED) is an emerging electromembrane technology for the electrified generation of acids and bases. In this study, we present the development of a robust and flexible BPMED modeling framework for process design and optimization. Critically, the approach does not rely on empirical fitting parameters. The model was validated and showed excellent agreement for two orthogonal experimental setups. The robustness, flexibility, and generalizability of the model underscores its utility for the accurate simulation of facility-scale systems.
