A Columbia team led by Yip has been awarded an ARPA-E RECOVER project!

October 30, 2025

The Yip Lab is thrilled to be selected for ARPA-E's new RECOVER program, which aims to enhance America's critical mineral resilience by establishing new, secure domestic supply chains.

ARPA-E RECOVER projects will work to develop technologies that recover previously discarded critical minerals from U.S. wastewaters.

Our project, PURE HARVES2T, will develop novel solvent-based innovations for the recovery of critical energy materials lithium and magnesium from produced water, an upstream waste byproduct of the energy sector.

The project is a collaboration with Professors Shaina Kelly and Adeyemi Adeleye, both of Earth and Environmental Engineering at Columbia University.
