Our collaborative research “Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis for Ammonia Recovery from Synthetic Urine: Experiments, Modeling, and Performance Analysis” is published in Environmental Science & Technology!

In the joint study with Shihong Lin's group at Vanderbilt University, we demonstrate the inventive integration of bipolar membrane electrodialysis with membrane contactor, to rationally alter the pH of urine and achieve high ammonia recovery yields. The technique eliminates the need for chemical inputs with a relatively low specific  energy consumption.
