Ian Billinge

Ph.D. Students

Ph.D. Student, Earth & Environmental Engineering, Columbia University
M.S., Earth & Environmental Engineering, Columbia University, 2021
B.S., Physics, Yale University, 2019

Ian's research focuses onĀ Temperature Swing Solvent Extraction, a radically new, liquid-phase desalination technique for hypersaline brines. Ian's current research projects include searching for new TSSE solvents, using light scattering to probe the fundamental mechanisms behind TSSE, and applying TSSE to real samples of industrial brine.

Ian's past research included optical modeling for surface-sensitive FTIR spectroscopy and characterization of the electrical and conductive properties of magnetic liquid metals (MLMs) for the creation of a lab-scale MLM dynamo.

In his spare time, Ian enjoys cycling, soccer, and singing.
